Serve
We glorify God by following the example of Jesus, who despite being God, came as a servant.
Why Serve?
Who we are and how we live is shaped by what we believe. The world teaches us to be selfish. To take what we can get. The Gospel teaches us to be servants – to make sacrifices of ourselves for the good of others. We glorify God by following the example of Jesus, who despite being God, came as a servant.
We want to create a community where the individuals use their gifts to serve each other for God’s glory (1 Peter 4:10) – a community that encourages and supports each other through good works (Hebrews 10:24). The church exists to make disciples. One of the best ways to grow and live out discipleship is through volunteer opportunities.
And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you.
But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
— Mark 10:42-45 (ESV)
