“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.”
– Matthew 28:19
Our journey to live out Jesus’ words in The Great Commission, has led us to La Cruz, Costa Rica.
WHY COSTA RICA?
It all started with a desire to partner with a local church globally…which means we are participating in ministry that continues long after our teams come home. Jesus started one organization in His time on Earth—the local church. The local church is the hope of the world. And when we work together with churches in other parts of the world, we begin to see The Great Commission happening before our eyes.
PRAYING PELICAN MISSIONS
This vision for global missions lead us to a partnership with Praying Pelican Missions (www.prayingpelicanmissions.org). PPM is a ministry that specializes in “connecting churches on a global level.” Through much prayer, evaluation, and discussion we were able to determine that Costa Rica was a great fit for Carolina Forest.
In October of 2015 we took a discovery trip through the Guanacaste Region of Costa Rica with Praying Pelican Missions. Highlights from that first discovery trip can be seen here: This trip gave us the opportunity to meet and pray with pastors all over the region, which was an amazing blessing for our team.
PASTOR GERARDO AND IGLESIA BIBLICA
Upon returning, we spent much time in prayer asking God which one of the many wonderful churches we would partner with in Costa Rica. Eventually, it became clear that God was leading us to Pastor Gerardo and Iglesia Biblica in La Cruz (Link Pastor Gerardo Profile). In May of 2016, we sent our first team to serve with Pastor Gerardo, and we saw the vision of the global church partnership as a mission strategy come alive.
This journey with Praying Pelican Missions has also introduced us to Nathan Norman, who is a full-time missionary in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. Nathan and his beautiful family serve many pastors all round the region, as well as leading many teams that travel to the region through PPM. You can read all about their missionary adventures here. Nathan has been a huge part of our Ministry in La Cruz, and we are blessed to have him helping lead our efforts there.
Prayer is essential to the work of making disciples of all nations. Our team members, missionaries, and partner church are powerless and they will not accomplish much without plugging into the power of prayer.
“I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.” Romans 15:30
Here are some specific ways to pray for our teams that travel to Costa Rica:
- Pray for open doors – Colossians 4:2–3
- Pray for boldness – Ephesians 6:19
- Pray that God’s Word will spread – 2 Thessalonians 3:1
- Pray for protection – 2 Thessalonians 3:2
- Pray for more workers – Matthew 9:38
God’s people are supposed to provide for God’s work, it may be giving of your time, your talents or your financial resources. God’s work has always been done by the generosity of his people in all of these areas.
“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” -2 Corinthians 9:7-9
Some of the financial needs that we are currently striving to meet for Pastor Gerardo and Iglesia Biblica are:
Sustainable Feeding Programs: La Cruz is full of people struggling to find enough food, and many of those that are hungry are children. Iglesia Biblica desires to do regular feeding programs that will help fill this gap by providing warm meals to the surrounding community on a weekly basis.
Construction Projects: Pastor Gerardo’s vision for the property that God has blessed the church with is large, and we feel strongly that God has called us to help them work toward completing the buildings and athletic field that will allow them to serve La Cruz well for the sake of advancing the Gospel.
There are multiple ways that you can give toward the work that God is doing in La Cruz.
- ONLINE GIVING:
You can give online and select Costa Rica in the designated giving menu.
- TEXT GIVING:
You can simply text the word COSTA RICA followed by the amount to (843) 353-1558 (Example: COSTA RICA $100)
- IN SERVICE:
You can give cash or check during the Sunday services and designate Costa Rica using the envelope in the back of the seats.
Extend yourself and be a part of what God is doing through CFCC in Costa Rica. Acts 1:8 commands us to be God’s witnesses both here at home and all across the globe. Don’t think that God left the job of going for the “professional” missionary.
Come with us and experience the blessing of serving others first hand, the Apostle Paul counted it a privilege to work for the Lord, it will change your life forever and draw you closer to God.
For those interested in going on a short-term trip to La Cruz, we ask that you follow the guidelines below:

Here are tentative dates for the upcoming trips to La Cruz:
